Burglars Now Using Social Media To Find Empty Homes.
Police in New Hampshire have confirmed that a group of burglars in Nashua, New Hampshire have been using the FaceBook social network to target victims and raid their homes. This process involved harvesting clues from users status updates to determine when the person might be away from the home. It's currently estimated that the burglary group stole upwards of $200,000 worth of property before being caught. So far, Police have identified three male suspects involved, but there could be more.
Local Police are urging people to exercise caution when choosing just what to share on social networking sites.
Social networking sites such as FaceBook have user-definable security parameters that control just how much data is shared and with whom it is shared. As part of this process, you may also want to review your Windows Browser Security Settings for any changes that should be made there. If you need assistance with this process, please contact the CCS Retail Systems Support Department.
